Drenthe is the least densely populated province of the Netherlands and is known as the greenest province of our country. If you spend your holiday in Drenthe, you will be surprised how much greenery can be found everywhere. Drenthe is home to centuries-old nature. One of the oldest forests in our country lies just south of the Drenthe town of Norg. The Norgerholt is a 25-hectare area managed by Natuurmonumenten. The base of the forest is believed to date back to the 9th century. Many more oak trees were planted in the 19th century. Also characteristic of the area are the thick holly trees. Natuurmonumenten allows the forest to develop further without human intervention.
