A magical place full of nature and culture!
Wandering through nature for hours without meeting anyone? Visiting a zoo or gallery? Relaxing in a wellness centre? Drenthe has it all, both for a longer holiday and a day out. You must have seen the dolmens at least once in your life. Drenthe really breathes history. See the atmospheric villages and authentic cities.
The bungalows are located in the Drents-Friese Wold National Park. This park is one of the largest nature reserves in the Netherlands. 6150 hectares of forest and heathland on the border of Friesland and Drenthe, ideally suited for walking and cycling tours. At the Drents-Friese Wold visitor centre you can learn more about the nature reserve. There are also nice routes to be found here.
Less than 3 kilometres from the BosBungalows is the Aekingerzand. You can enjoy walking through the Aekingerzand, a heathland and drifting sand area. Every season has its charm and is worth a visit. The Aekingermeer is located in the middle of the nature reserve and is a very clean swimming lake and ideal for children, because the bottom slopes gently. There is also a special splashing lake for dogs.
Dogs are also very welcome in the Drents-Friese Wold. For the largest part of the area, dogs must be kept on a leash, but there are also large off-leash areas. There is already an off-leash area about 1 kilometre from the BosBungalows.
General rule: dogs on a leash
This applies to the entire Drents-Friese Wold with the exception of the off-leash areas and areas with a (periodic) ban. Dogs must also always be on a leash at day recreation areas. Many people come to picnic and children play at these places.
Off-leash areas for dogs
There are various areas designated where dogs are allowed to run free on the paths. In this case, your dog must be under control. Roaming and chasing game is not permitted. The off-leash areas are interconnected so that it is possible to take a long walk together. The off-leash areas are indicated by signs in the field.
Kale Duinen periodically prohibited for dogs
Dogs are not allowed within the fencing of the Kale Duinen (or Aekingerzand) during the breeding season from 15 March to 15 August. During the breeding season, this area is extremely sensitive to disturbance because the birds nest on the ground.
Spartelvijver and Canadameer
Dogs like to play in water and they can do so in the Spartelvijver. This pond was dug especially for dogs and horses. This pond is located north of the Canadameer. The Canadameer is intended as a recreational lake for people and dogs are not allowed here.
