North Holland the most beautiful nature reserve in the Netherlands!
The Wadden area has won the election of the Most Beautiful Nature Area in the Netherlands. It received the most votes and finished ahead of the Veluwe and Hollands Duin. This was announced on 1 November 2016 during De Wereld Draait Door.
Landschap Noord-Holland owns no fewer than 96 nature areas spread throughout North Holland. They are approximately 4,500 hectares in total, which is about 7,000 football fields of nature. Enough for many explorations.
There is plenty to do in the area around the KustBungalows. Below is a small selection of the possibilities:
Day out
Alkmaar is a beautiful old city where you can go shopping. The Cheese Market is held here on Fridays.
A day at the Zaanse Schans is highly recommended. There is also plenty to do and see for the kids. Rent a whisper boat.
In Amsterdam there is something for everyone. Are you going shopping, to museums or do you choose a canal cruise?
In Schagen, a West Frisian market is organized weekly in the summer. There is plenty to see and do in West Frisian style.
The Schager Popweekend is also organized annually and many other fun events.
Schoorl is known for the Klimduin. While the children walk up and then come back down running, flying or rolling, you can enjoy a cup of coffee at the bottom of this 51-meter-high sand mountain.
And don't forget the artists' village of Bergen! Here you will find the sea aquarium and various music festivals are held.
In Amusement Park De Goudvis you can jump, climb, swing, slide, pedal boat and much more! Even in bad weather, the kids won't be bored, there is plenty to do in one of the three (!) indoor play paradises.
In De Holle Bolle Boom you will find a beautiful indoor play paradise, an outdoor playground and a water play paradise
Blanckendaell Park an animal park where you can see animals from all over the world.
Landgoed Hoenderdaell has animal enclosures in the middle of a beautiful, vast nature reserve. Paths lead through the forest, via vast fields and along the water. You will get to know animals that walk freely through the animal park. For example, you can come face to face with an emu, pheasant or one of the frolicking deer.
Vlindorado is one of the largest indoor butterfly gardens in Europe, housed in the flower nursery of Dekker Anthuriums.
Bulb fields
The recreation parks are located in the middle of the bulb fields. Tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, in April and May everything is in bloom and you will be amazed! But there is also plenty to see in the summer and autumn, there are farms where summer bulbs bloom. The Pluktuin and the Floratuin Julianadorp are really fun. Here you can pick your own flowers in the spring. In the Floratuin you can pick dahlias in the fall and there are many different types to admire. You can also buy the bulbs here.
Het Zwanenwater
Hidden in the North Holland dunes, just a few minutes' walk from the campsite, lies Het Zwanenwater. A protected nature reserve with one of the largest natural dune lakes in Europe. Walk through the dune valleys and discover the many flowers, mushrooms, butterflies and birds that the area is rich in. For more information, see the Natuurmonumenten website.
De Helderse Vallei
In De Helderse Vallei you will find a nature and environmental education center with a petting zoo, play areas, an open-air theater, a lookout tower and a real barefoot path! In short: a wonderful place to go with your children for a day of fun. Also very suitable for school trips. From the campsite it is about 4 km by bike via the canoe route, or you can paddle there by canoe. Of course you can also get there by car.
Are you looking for even more adventure? Here you will also find the Klimvallei: a climbing park with challenging obstacles at different heights. And if you get hungry after all that playing, climbing and scrambling, go and eat a delicious pancake at De Pannenkoekenvallei!
Texel
A stay in one of the KustBungalows is the ideal base for a day on Texel. The ferry leaves every hour (and on peak days every half hour) from Den Helder to Texel.
You can of course explore this cozy island by car, but it is even more fun to do it by bike! From Julianadorp you can cycle to the Texel boat in about half an hour (9 km), a beautiful trip in itself through the dunes and over the dike. From Sint Maarten or Schagen we recommend that you go by car. It is possible to make the crossing by car, but you can also park your car at the boat and rent a bike on Texel.
There is plenty to do on Texel. For example, visit the cozy villages of Den Burg and De Koog, one of the nice museums that the island has to offer or the 150 year old lighthouse. Seal sanctuary Ecomare is great for children, there is a lot to see and do. The Texelse Bierbrouwerij is also recommended. Here you can
